Fortress summoning itself does not start a chain, but can you chain D.D. Crow and remove Fortress after it discarded itself for the cost?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you can. Since it's a cost, player A would discard, then ask for a response, then player B could D.D. Crow before M. Fortress summons itself.

That's what I thought too. But the reason why I'm not sure is because the rulings make a big point of Machina Fortress's effect NOT starting a chain. I was worried that that would make a difference.

That shouldn't make a difference. D.D. Crow's effect is a Quick effect so you should be able to chain it to M. Fortress's effect.

I e-mailed the head judges at Konami. Since there's no chain started, D.D. Crow cannot be activated in response :< How disappointing!
